Lord, I come to you angry. I would rather bring it to you than tidy it away, so I am not going to dress it up or pretend it has gone. God, I am angry. It is real, it is heavy, and I do not want to shrink it down to something smaller. You see it already, so I set it in front of you now, just as it is. I do not have to make it sound better than it feels. Thank you that I can be honest here, and that you do not turn away from me when I am. Hold me while I say it plainly. Keep me from shutting it away, and keep me from letting it run ahead of me. Your word says in Ephesians 4:26, “Be ye angry, and sin not”. Lord, make room in me for honest anger, and keep me from being ruled by it. Lord, stay close to me in this anger. Give me a steady heart, and help me tell the truth about what I feel without being ruled by it. Slow my words when they rush. Show me the next faithful step, even if it is only to breathe and to keep talking to you. If my anger is rooted in harm or injustice done to me, do not let me call that small, and bring me to a trusted person who can listen and stand with me. I lean on you for hope that is honest, not hurried. And in James 1:19 your word says, “let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath”. Slow my words and settle my heart, Lord, and give me your steadiness here. Thank you for hearing me as I am. I set this anger in your hands again, and I ask you to walk with me through the rest of this day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
