God, someone I know is going through something, and I want to be genuinely useful to them. I do not know everything they are carrying, and I do not want to pretend I do. Slow me down, Lord. Let me notice them before I try to fix anything. Soften my heart so that compassion comes before advice. Your word says in Luke 10:33, “came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion”. Lord, let that same compassion move in me, patient and unhurried, before any advice is given. Give me wisdom to listen and to ask, rather than assume what they need. Help me offer what is truly useful, not only what makes me feel helpful. Keep me from taking over their story. Make me steady, kind, and honest. If they need more than I can give, make me glad for others to help too. And in 2 Corinthians 1:24 your word says, “Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy”. Keep this care humble, Lord, and let it be a real help to their joy, never a weight on them. Teach me to care for them well, Lord. Hold them in whatever they are facing, and hold me as I try to love them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
