Lord God, merciful and patient, I come to you angry. Lord, I bring my anger to you as it is. I will not tidy it away before I pray. You see how strong this anger is. I do not want to make it smaller or tidier than it is, so I name it plainly before you. Receive it without flinching. Have mercy on me where I feel hot and heavy with it, and stay close to me while I am honest. As we hear in Ephesians 4:26, “Be ye angry, and sin not”. Lord, hear this anger as it is, and keep it from turning into harm. Give me wisdom to understand what this anger is showing me, and to choose what to do with it without causing harm. Make me quick to listen and slow to speak. Loosen its hold on me, but do not let me be pushed into excusing the wrong or ignoring what still needs attention. Lead me in your mercy, one honest step at a time, trusting that your grace is greater than my anger. And in Colossians 3:13 we hear, “forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man have a complaint against any”. Lord, loosen anger's grip gently, show what still needs attention, and give wisdom for each next step. Christ Jesus, you know what it is to be wronged, and you do not leave me alone with it. Hold me in your peace as I go. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
