Lord God, giver of every good thing, I come to you with a quiet wish to see more clearly. I have been given more than I have noticed, and I would like to notice. Lord, I confess that I have passed by many gifts without seeing them. The care I have received and the daily mercies that have carried me, I have often treated as ordinary. Have mercy on my hurry and on my blindness. Open my eyes to recognise what you have already placed in my life, and let me receive it with thanks. As we hear in Genesis 28:16, “Surely Jehovah is in this place; and I knew it not”. Lord, be known in the ordinary places of this life, and open eyes that have been slow to see you there. Give me wisdom and a quieter heart, so that I can notice goodness without taking it for granted. Teach me to pause, to receive, and to give thanks. Let gratitude grow in me slowly and honestly, and let it turn my heart toward you, the giver of every gift. And in Ecclesiastes 3:13 we hear, “and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God”. Teach this heart to receive each good thing as your gift, and to enjoy it with thanksgiving. Trusting in your grace, I rest in this prayer and offer it to you. Open my eyes, Lord, to all that you have given. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
