Lord God, giver of every good gift, I come to you with a thankful heart. Something good has happened, and I noticed it, and I do not want to let it slip past without saying thank you. Father, I name before you what happened. It was good, and it was a gift, and I received it. Thank you for letting me see it and not hurry past it. Forgive me for the times I take good things for granted. Open my eyes to your kindness in this moment, and let my thanks rise to you honestly and simply. As we hear in Psalm 100:4, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise”. Lord, receive this thanksgiving and praise, and gladden this grateful heart in your presence. Merciful God, do not let this gratitude fade by tomorrow. Help me remember what you have done, and return to it when the days feel ordinary or heavy. Teach me to give thanks in small things as well as large, trusting your grace to hold me. Keep my heart soft and awake to you. And in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 we hear, “in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus”. Lord, teach this thankful heart to keep giving thanks, and hold it steady in your grace. Lord, thank you for this good gift, and help me remember it. Gather my gratitude into the praise of your Son. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
