Lord, I come to you carrying a fear about something that has not happened and may never happen. My mind keeps circling back to it, imagining what could go wrong, and I feel worn out from watching for trouble that has not arrived. I bring this exactly as it is, without pretending it is small, and I ask for your help. Lord, steady my thoughts when they fix on the feared possibility instead of on what is true right now. Quiet the rehearsing and the racing in my mind, and help me notice when I have wandered into imagined trouble so I can gently bring myself back. Where anxiety rises, meet it with your peace rather than letting it multiply on its own. I do not ask you to promise me that nothing hard will ever come, only that you would steady me now, in this moment, as I try to think clearly again. Your word says in Proverbs 3:24, “When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid”. So I ask you to keep me from that restless lying awake, and let me settle, even now, into your keeping. Help me rest in the present, in what is actually true right now, rather than being ruled by what might happen later. I give you the weight of this watching and this worry, since you care for me more than I can fully take in. Teach me to notice this breath, this day, this ordinary moment, and to find you near in it rather than only in the outcome I am afraid of. I rest in what is true, right now, in you. Let that be enough for today, even while tomorrow stays unknown. And in 1 Peter 5:7 your word says, “casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you”. I place this worry into your hands, trusting that you are able to carry what I cannot. Thank you for staying with me in this fear rather than asking me to pretend it is not there. Keep steadying my thoughts and drawing me back to what is real and present. I set this down before you again, as many times as I need to. In Jesus’ name, amen.
