Lord, someone I care about is going through something hard right now, and I want to be genuinely useful to them. I do not want to guess or assume. I want to actually listen and understand what they need from me. Give me ears that really hear and eyes that really see. Help me set aside my own assumptions about what would help and instead pay attention to what this person is actually asking for. Let my words, when I speak, build them up rather than add weight to what they already carry. Your word says in Ephesians 4:29, “what is good for building others up as the need may be”. Lord, let my words fit what this person actually needs, not what is easiest for me to say. Give me strength to show up for them in ways that respect their choices and their pace. I do not want to rush in with my own solutions or try to fix what is not mine to fix. Help me be patient, help me be kind, help me stay present without pushing my own way. Let me be a fellow worker for their good, not someone who tries to steer their path. Help me stay near them with steady, caring presence, even when I cannot solve what they are facing. And in 2 Corinthians 1:24 your word says, “We don’t control your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy”. Lord, keep me from trying to control their path. Let me simply work alongside them for their good. Lord, I want to be genuinely useful to them, not for my own sake, but for theirs. Shape my heart and my attention so that whatever I offer actually helps. In Jesus’ name, amen.
