Lord, someone I know is going through something, and I want to be truly useful to them. I do not know all of it, and I do not want to pretend that I do. Give me wisdom to understand what this person actually needs. Keep me from assuming. Help me to ask gently, to listen well, and to hear what they say, even when it is not what I expected. Show me what is mine to offer, and what is not. Your word says in Luke 10:33, “when he saw him, he was moved with compassion”. Lord, move us toward that same compassion, and give wisdom to see what is really needed here, without assuming. Give me patience when I feel unsure. Give me compassion that stays, and steadiness when I want to rush in and fix things or pull away. Help me remain available in a way that respects their needs and their pace. Let me be a helper and never a controller. Thank you that I do not have to carry this alone. And in 2 Corinthians 1:24 your word says, “Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy”. Lord, teach a steady kind of help here, one that serves their joy and never takes over. Lord, take my small offering and use it gently. Show me how to help, and keep me steady. In Jesus’ name, amen.
