Lord, you know the people I will see today. I find them hard, and I feel that already. I do not want to be smaller than I could be with them. Lord, I bring you the faces I will meet today. Some of them wear me down. Help me stay steady when I want to snap or pull away. Help me be honest without being harsh. Keep my mind clear and sober, and teach me to pray before I speak. Give me a calm breath when my chest tightens. Your word says in 1 Peter 4:7, “be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer”. Lord, give me that clear and prayerful mind as I walk toward these people today. I do not want to shrink to keep the peace, and I do not want to harden to protect myself. Give me wisdom for what to say and what to leave unsaid. Let my words and my silence both show who I want to be. Help me to be myself without being unkind. Show me the good response in the moment, and forgive me where I get it wrong. And in 1 Samuel 25:33 your word says, “blessed be thy discretion, and blessed be thou”. Lord, grant me that kind of discretion, so my answers today are wise and true. Walk with me into this day, Lord. When it is over, I will bring it back to you, whatever it held. In Jesus’ name, amen.
